Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 10.11.17

We had so much to discuss and also to celebrate about last week’s stay. However the words of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall after the State decided not to appeal the stay are certainly a reality check: “We will seek a new execution date as soon as possible.” There was too little time to appeal against the stay for the execution to occur on Thursday, Marshall said in a statement.” And of course we are now only one week away from the scheduled execution of Torrey McNabb.

The men did hold their execution vigil last week.  Among other topics they highlighted the brilliant legal representation by the Federal Defenders and in particular Attorney Jon Palombi who represents both Jeffrey Borden and Torrey McNabb. We are so grateful to all the staff of the Federal Defenders for their legal expertise as well as for their respect for the dignity of their clients. We cannot say this often enough or adequately show our appreciation. It is our hope that they know that we do not take them for granted. Thank you to all!

Thank you also to all who stood and continue to stand with us both here in Alabama, in the nation as well as overseas, individuals as well as organizations such as Oppose, Alabama New South Coalition, the Alabama State Conference of the NAACP, SOS, JAM, Alabama Arise, Lifespark/Switzerland, ACAT France and the Catholic Mobilizing Network to End the Use of the Death Penalty and others.

Please continue to call Governor Ivey 334 242 7100 and request clemency for  Torrey McNabb who is scheduled to be executed 10.19. 17.

 See you next week!
