Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 6.3.20

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 6.3.20

We reported about the enthusiasm for our organization by some of the men from Donaldson after their arrival at Holman. We also mentioned that after they came off single walk a few of them asked to be invited to our meetings. We are glad to say that the enthusiasm of the 7 who asked to be invited continues. They keep us on our toes as they attend all groups asking questions, taking notes for their attorneys about recent relevant rulings and learning about the political aspects to the death penalty ie Conservatives Concerned About the Death Penalty and of course our history. They are even eager to write articles for the next Wings of Hope and asked for guidelines.  We told them that it is never too early to write an article to be considered for publication.

As part of who we are we have also been stressing the importance of being there for one another, to be willing to listen. Just what a difference that could perhaps have made was emphasized for us by the recent death of Jamal Jackson, our sub board member. Would listening have made a difference? We will never know.

Interesting and also energizing for all of us was that our new members can not understand why not everyone on death row is part of phadp. We had 17 members and now with the new additional 7 members we are 24 out of a total of 167 males. We wonder could this be an indication of the emotional and self defeating fragility of many on death row or if not that it certainly points to the positive determination of the members of our organization.

As individuals we are not on Facebook but the following quote found there by Esther  certainly resonated with us in regards to the time it took to arrest the guilty in Minneapolis:

“Arrested? Hell, Black men are EXECUTED with less evidence than exists against Minneapolis officers.” #BlackLivesMatter #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd #IAmStillTroyDavis”

In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Please stay safe!
