Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 7.15.20
Last year at the suggestion and with the guidance from our Advisory Board Member Paul Labatte of Ontario Canada we wrote a letter to Cardinal DiNardo President of the U.S. Catholic Bishops Association. We asked him to issue a Pastoral Letter reminding the faithful of the official position of the Church and her position regarding the Death Penalty as affirmed in the recent congress to all U.S. Catholic Bishops to be read in every parish in every diocese in the US. Very recently in response to the restart of federal executions the Catholic Church as well as other religious affiliations took a strong stand against the death penalty. Could our letter have been a factor? We don’t know but we are grateful to Paul for his suggestion that this might have been the case and the importance of follow up to show our appreciation. Our     unique position of being the only inmate death row organization in the country gives us a special voice. Thank you Paul for your guidance!
As our supporters who read our Newsletter Wings of Hope know, we have writers in our organization who we keep busy. What you may not have known is that we also have artists who also need to be kept busy. Yes, they make our cards but now we came up with the great idea for them to make posters. We will tell you more about those as the posters take shape.
We have gifted various friends/supporters with our phadp T-shirts as a way of showing our appreciation. Judging by the delighted feedback received the T-shirts designed by the Board were a great idea. We would also like to thank Gail Glover who saw to the ordering and distribution of the shirts. Thank you, Gail we appreciate you!
Shamefully for this country there are three Federal executions this month. The first one was on the 13th, one is today and there is one on the 17th. EXECUTE JUSTICE NOT PEOPLE!
In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Please stay safe!
