Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 7.22.20

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 7.22.20

The make-up of our Board consists of 7 members. Each position has individual duties laid out originally by our founders 31 years ago and updated over the years as the need required. We also have 2 Sub-Board members who may eventually become Board members although at the moment these positions are vacant. The Board votes on all of these positions. Last week we devoted several hours going over our original documents with members of our subgroups who would be eligible and explained the duties that come with the position. We paired up possible candidates with current Board members who had held various positions to provide further insight. It is a process to groom interested members and we are interested in reliability. We experience a certain amount of turn over due to resentencing, executions or personal issues and so our ongoing goal is always to provide continuity and stability.

Last week Witness to Innocence’s, Herman Lindsey hosted another CRUEL JUSTICE on Facebook Live where he interviewed exoneree Randal Padgett. Herman and Randal  discussed Just Mercy and Randal shared some of his own experience as a survivor of Alabama's death row. They listed some of the reasons which lead to false convictions: eyewitness error, poor legal representation, racial prejudice, prosecutorial misconduct,

the presentation of erroneous evidence, false confession, junk science, reliance on unreliable jailhouse snitches. It was an interesting conversation!

Shamefully for this country there were three Federal executions last week. Our so called justice system made headlines around the world. EXECUTE JUSTICE NOT PEOPLE!

In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Please stay safe!
