Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 7.20.22

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 7.20.22

As Joe James is representing himself it is even more difficult than usual to get definitive information whether there could be a stay of his execution scheduled for next week. We quote: “A federal judge last Wednesday denied Joe Nathan James Jr.’s requests for a stay of execution. Barring possible last-minute court intervention, James will die by lethal injection on July 28.”. Meanwhile we are certainly going to remain hopeful, and at the same time continue our support of Joe to the very best of our abilities. This includes material as well as emotional support while at the same time respecting his privacy.

We are grateful for the letters written on Joe’s behalf to the Governor and are pleased that the interview article of the victim’s family by journalist Lee Hedgepeth entitled” We’re not God” was an inspiration for some of these. Unfortunately Alabama has a sad history of only hearing family of murder victims when they seek vengeance. How inspiring it would be if this time they could be heard!

We ask our supporters to continue to contact the Governor and to sign a petition on behalf of Mr. Joe N. James Jr. You will find the Talking Points for Mr. James on our website http://www.phadp.org/?q=alerts as well as the contact for Governor Ivey who stated “that all life is sacred”. Many thanks to those of you who have already contacted the Governor and to those who have shared the Talking Points! We are grateful for your help in getting the word out and could not do it without you!

The Alabama Supreme Court has set September 22nd as the execution date for Alan Eugene Miller, a severely mentally disturbed man. We will post talking points for Mr. Miller soon.

In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Stay safe!
