Suggested Talking Points:

1. Mr. Hunt has ineffective assistance of counsel claims at trial and at the sentencing phase in part because the State of Alabama provides insufficient funding for the compensation of capital defense attorneys.

2. Mr. Hunt had a traumatic childhood due to a violent and abusive father and foster care placements however no witnesses were presented to support this issue which also promoted early onset of drug use.

3. The execution method to be used, nitrogen gas asphyxiation is neither quick nor painless, but agonizing and painful as was demonstrated at the executions last year. It amounts to cruel and unusual punishment which is barred by the U.S. Constitution.

4. Alabama ought to delay all executions to allow for a thorough study of its capital punishment process and consider the serious objections raised as to how it administers the death penalty.
