Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 4.16.25
Alabama has set 4.24.25 as the execution date for James Osgood. As per Mr. Osgood’s request there will be no appeals to contact Governor Ivey and no protests against his execution.
As with all executions there can be different points of view depending on one’s belief system. Stephen Cooper in his article” Alabama’s torturous death penalty machinery hums on” states: “In the case of Osgood — and all execution volunteers — the obscenely cognitive dissonant act of killing another person to show that killing is wrong is even more cognitively dissonant than in other capital cases. This is because, in cases of “execution volunteerism,” the state is killing another person, the killer, at the request of the killer.”
Please mark your calendars for “ EARWITNESS, Toforest Johnson. An Innocent Man on Alabama’s Death Row” Sunday April 27th, lunch at 12:30 p.m. Program at 1:00 p.m. with presenters Akeriya “Muffin” Terry, Tofotest’s daughter and Beth Shelburn, Host of Earwitness Podcast at Canterbury Episcopal Chapel, 812 5th Ave, Tuscaloosa, AL. Last Saturday was a very special day. The Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood came to visit Esther. It was an amazing visit and it was recorded. Maybe you will see it one day but certainly meanwhile we are definitely in the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood’s debt and are so honored and grateful to call him friend.
We received an invitation to participate in the newly relaunched American Penal Press Contest. All newspapers, newsletters and journalistic publications published inside prisons are eligible. Originally the contest ran from the 1960s until 1991. Now the Pollen Initiative is reviving the contest in partnership with Southern Illinois University’s School of Journalism.
We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other!
