Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 1.8.25

Governor Ivey has set February 6th as the execution date for Demetrius T. Frazier. The Talking Points for letters and emails to the Governor are at https://www.phadp.org/execution-alert-3/.  And from our friends at Death Penalty Action: “Stay tuned. Petition forthcoming!” We will share it as soon as it becomes available.

Meanwhile one of our missions is to help individuals with their legal issues and so we decided that maybe some smaller groups could be helpful to address this.” We did get a tentative plan in place for getting some group(s) setup, we won't start until after next week's meeting, but we are optimistic about the opportunities it will open up.”

There was also much discussion about legal remedies for those left behind on North Carolina and federal death row as well as any avenues that might be open to us because of recent events.

We have been researching and writing on various issues including. UN -information regarding international actions against death penalty states etc ES - evolving standards of decency and that states should be going in the right direction instead of backwards CT - Connecticut lawmakers have put legislation in place to prevent the use of drugs for executions, and the EU bans use of all execution/torture implements. We are asking other states to follow that example SS- stimulus money that Alabama misused on the prison construction should be given back. EP - Equal protection claims and arguments. We have forwarded our statements to various leaders in the U.S. as well as abroad with requests for action and hope that we will be kept in the loop of any progress.

We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other!
