Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 10.11.23

Alabama continues to be in the national and international news because it asked for an execution date for Kenneth Smith whose first execution was botched. We share all the articles on Facebook and of course copy and send them to our Board at Holman. The State has also asked for an execution date for Casey McWhorter. We are reaching out to Casey and will keep you posted.

We are glad to be able to report that Death Penalty Reform, including a law to require juries to be unanimous in any decision to impose a death sentence was chosen once more as one of 7 priorities for the next year for Alabama Arise. We thank all who made this happen.

We are pleased that we were able to connect Gary Drinkard and Carlo Santo of Sant’Egidio and that Gary will be representing Alabama and us in Rome for one week at the end of November, early December. Gary is not only on our Advisory Board but while on death row was also a member of our organization.

We thank all who organized and participated in events yesterday for World Day Against the Death Penalty. We held our own event at Holman and stood with Jedidiah Isaac Murphy who the State of Texas executed.

The good news from the managing director of Reveal Digital/JStor is that our newsletter Wings of Hope is now up on line. It is of course also up on our website but people can find us who may not know that we exist.

We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. And if you would like to order our book “Ghosts Over the Boiler” you can do so at Amazon.com. Stay well and be kind to each other!                                                                  Esther
