Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 10.16.24
Derrick Dearman will be executed tomorrow by the state of Alabama. Weather permitting we will show our respect and solidarity for our brother by refraining from sports and wearing our dress whites for yard where we will observe moments of silence and prayer on Tuesday, today and tomorrow. We will gather in a circle sharing memories of Derrick and praying that somehow he may find peace. Derrick is not alone. Family and his Spiritual Advisor, the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood are with him.
This is Derrick’s final statement: 'I am willingly giving all that I can possibly give to try and repay a small portion of my debt to society for the terrible things that I have done. From this point forward, I hope that the focus will not be on me, but rather on the healing of all the people that I have hurt.'
We thank all who contacted the Governor, signed the petition and let Alabama know that it does not kill in your name. The petitions will be delivered by email.
As always Death Penalty Action will hold an online vigil which you can join.
Be kind to each other!
