Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 10.8.25
Governor Ivey has set October 23rd as the execution date for our Chairman, Anthony Boyd. Talking Points are at
https://www.phadp.org/execution-alert-8/ Our Chairman is a fighter which is good for all of us. Now is not the time to give up! Please sign the petition: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-the-execution-of-anthony-boyd-in-alabama
We sent out notification for the next billboard SAVE ANTHONY BOYD in Talladega today and we cannot say enough how grateful we are to the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood for his dedicated and non-stop work to save Anthony. You can read him on his website PATHEOS where he posts article after article to stop state killing. His organization is EXECUTION INTERVENTION PROJECT where you can make a donation. Our friends at DEATH PENALTY ACTION are also very much in the picture and we are grateful to all!
While in Alabama the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood has been invited to preach at various churches and will also be at Troy University. If anyone can wake up this backward state he is the one and so we hope!
A three-judge panel ruled that a Black juror was improperly removed prior to a murder trial for Michael Sockwell and granted him a new trial. The Attorney General has appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. The word racist comes to mind!
We discussed the obvious political motivation of the 2 bills filed to expand the death penalty as many people in this state are not even aware that there is a death penalty and if high on drugs, in a rage or psychiatric would not even give the possible punishment a second thought. In the unlikely case that they did it might lead to further bloodshed.
For reasons beyond our control the next edition of Wings of Hope has been seriously delayed. When we finally receive it you will be able to read it on our website.
We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other!
Esther
