Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 11.13.24
Governor Ivey set 11.21.24 as the execution date by nitrogen gas for Carey Dale Grayson. Talking Points : https://www.phadp.org/execution-alert-carey-dale-grayson-11-21-24/ and most importantly please sign the petition: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-the-execution-of-carey-grayson-in-alabama
The petitions will be presented to Governor Ivey on Monday, 11.18.24 after a rally at the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery organized by the Alabama State Death Penalty Abolition Coordinator of Amnesty International USA and Death Penalty Action. Please join us!
Last Wednesday U.S. District Judge R. Austin Huffaker Jr. denied a preliminary injunction request to block Alabama from executing Carey Dale Grayson on Nov. 21 using the same nitrogen gas protocol. “The judge also rejected the inmate’s request to be given sedatives, or a fatal dose of fentanyl, before his execution, but left open the possibility of a mild sedative being prescribed for therapeutic reasons.” This will be appealed.
As is usual every 2 weeks we attended the informative EJUSA Alabama People of Faith Death Penalty Coalition meeting led by Sam Heath. The next one is Wednesday, November 20 at 11am CT on Zoom. All are welcome and you can email Sam Heath at [email protected] to request the zoom link to join.
Please join Alabama Post-Conviction Relief Project for a personal perspective on the death penalty, illustrated through the story of Rocky Meyers currently on Alabama’s death row, an after-service program offering insights into the journey toward justice and how the faith community can support clemency efforts. The event will be on Sunday, November 17, 4-5 pm, at All Saints Church, Birmingham.

Thank you once more to our partner JAM for sponsoring a Day of Reflection, alerting followers about Carey Grayson’s date and vigil on day of execution, as well as referring friends to our website.
The Christmas edition of On Wings of Hope is at the printer.
We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly.
