Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 11.19.25
Last weekend was very special for those of us who participated in the Kairos weekend. We appreciated the fellowship, the interesting one on one exchanges, the time spent together which appear to be a hallmark of Kairos and which makes it so special.
Last weekend also saw the premiere of the documentary in New York City of Rolling Stone’s The Spiritual Advisor.”.The film, directed by Joel Fendelman and produced by James Chase Sanchez, follows Rev. Jeff Hood, a priest and death-penalty activist who serves as a spiritual advisor to death row inmates.”The Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood attended in person and participated in a Virtual Press Conference of Faith Leaders and Filmmakers Unite “No Death Penalty for Luigi Mangione”. We hope many saw it and were moved by it especially those who believe that justice is done when the state kills.
We were thankful to hear that Tremane Wood had been granted clemency and it is of course a coincidence that we had already decided to research cases where people were given the death penalty without actually having killed anyone as perhaps they were the lookout or simply because they had been nearby.
We were honored to share The Death Penalty: “Is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person” from Frank Brehany’s Substack. Frank lives in southern Wales where he heads up Amnesty Monmouthshire Amnesty Death Penalty Project which supports us. He is a attorney, former police officer and we thank him for his insights and friendship!
We also heard from a dear friend who lives in Spain and is a member of the Swiss organization Lifespark. She wrote on the occasion of our Chairman Ant’s execution and also to encourage us and thank us for what we do. Liliane wrote: “We are bringing awareness to the Swiss government and the world coalition to end the death penalty and asking them to join the call.” “Thank you for placing Hope out in this world that needs it so much!”
The 2025 Christmas card list is up on our website: https://www.phadp.org/christmas-card-list-2025/. We thank you!
We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other!
Esther
