The Alabama Supreme Court set November 17th as the execution date for Kenneth Eugene Smith whose jury had recommended life without the possibility of parole by an 11-1 vote.. Talking Points are posted on our website http://www.phadp.org/?q=alerts as well as contact for Governor Ivey for letters, emails and calls. Please also sign the petition https://bit.ly/KennnethSmith from our friends at Death Penalty Action. As always we are doing all we can to be supportive of our brother who has an execution date, stopping by his cell for conversation and sharing food. Kenny continues to be is very appreciative of all the support he receives.
We were stunned by the report created by Dr. Datnow who performed the second autopsy on Joe James which contradicts the findings of Dr. Joel Zivot who witnessed this autopsy. We can’t help wondering why the report took so long to be made public after Dr. Joel Zivot’s report. The article by Stephen Cooper “On slicing and sticking condemned men in Alabama” has Dr. Joel Zivot’s response to the report. There are many questions and we are confident attorneys will be asking them.
The state of Alabama has asked a federal judge to keep confidential certain information about what happened during the failed execution of Alan Miller last month. In particular the Attorney General asked that the identity of the execution team who Miller’s attorney wants to depose and specific information they reveal regarding the names of drug suppliers as well as security information of the DOC’s execution protocol be kept secret. Pull Back the Curtain!
With the Midterms just around the corner we not only hope that our supporters will vote but that they will also vote NO on the third amendment which complicates the process of how a governor can grant clemency. We like to remain hopeful that one day Alabama will have a governor who really does believe that ALL LIFE IS SACRED and uses the power given to her/him in a simple straightforward process.
In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Stay safe!
