Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 11.26.25
Tomorrow being Thanksgiving true to our tradition we will be celebrating Thanksgiving at our meeting today. And yes, we will enjoy what we are able to provide.
“For Giving Tuesday again this year, Alabama Arise is highlighting a few of our member groups that are key partners on our member-chosen priorities. We plan to include Project Hope again, specifically around our partnership on justice reform, and direct people to your giving page.” This was the message we received from our friends at Alabama Arise and yes, we are grateful!
And keeping in the spirit of thankfulness we heard that members of Grace Presbyterian in Tuscaloosa, gave $100 to Table of Grace, in memory of our former chairman, Ant. “Table of Grace was founded by Grace in 2023 and helps feed 3000 people each month. It is a market-style, client-choice food pantry, so our goal is to treat each person with dignity and compassion, not as a number but a person made in God’s image.” Yes, that is in keeping of who Ant was!
UPCOMING EVENTS: Sunday, NOV 30 @ 9am: Judge Clemons rescheduled at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in BHM; Sunday, DEC 7 @ 12:15pm. Toforest Johnson event at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in BHM ; Feb 2 @2pm- Auburn University upperclassmen sociology, law and justice, psychology and other fields. Dr. Tierra James. PHADP will be represented by Ronald Wyers.
We shared the latest letter by one of our friends Jean-Marie Lee to Governor Ivey, in part a reaction to President Trump’s statement “Hang them! George Washington would have.” she wrote: “And if we are being honest, capital punishment in America was never really about justice—it was about communication: who knew what, who could speak, and who the state wanted silenced. That dynamic goes all the way back to the aftermath of the American Revolution.” Something to ponder over your Thanksgiving holiday which we hope will be a good one for you!
The 2025 Christmas card list is up on our website: https://www.phadp.org/christmas-card-list-2025/. We thank you!
We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other! Happy Thanksgiving!
Esther
