Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 11.30.22

There was much for us to discuss today but we began with the article by Lee Hedgepeth “For the men of Alabama’s death row, it was almost Thanksgiving.” We still can hardly believe that we were given this opportunity to have our voices heard but even more importantly how respectfully, accurately and skillfully our views were presented. And of course we appreciated the incorporation of art from the row. Thank you, Lee Hedgepeth!

And of course we also appreciated the many, many articles about the moratorium and hope that Alabama politicians were listening. What happened to Joe Nathan James and to Alan Eugene Miller and Kenneth Eugene Smith will not be forgotten!

Meanwhile the attorneys for both Alan Eugene Miller and Kenneth Eugene Smith have filed appeals and in Miller’s case “According to court records filed Tuesday, the state has agreed to not execute Miller by lethal injection. The state agrees “that any future effort to execute (Miller’s) sentence of death can only be by means of nitrogen hypoxia.”

For those of our friends who would like to send us Christmas cards you will find the list for 2022 by going to our website www.phadp.org and writing “Christmas card list” in the search engine. The names are in no particular order. Everyone matters and we thank you!

Our thanks also to Death Penalty Action which encouraged their supporters to remember death penalty state organizations on Giving Tuesday. We appreciate it!

In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Stay safe!

Esther
