Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 11.5.25

As the media pointed out the torture execution of our late and much loved Chairman Anthony Boyd did appear to raise awareness of the death penalty in this country. The question now is how long will this awareness last and did the US Supreme Court Justices who believe in cruel and unusual punishment take note and how about in our state who felt that it just took a little longer but was basically okay?

We were grateful to be able to share Ant’s last picture with his family combined with his last words lovingly blended together by our friends at Death Penalty Action. And yes, the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood continues to write about the torture death of our late Chairman.

We discussed the blog post Capital Punishment Who Lives Who Dies dealing with the lack of mental health treatment available for the disadvantaged. “When a person’s symptoms are punished instead of treated, the system fails everyone, including the individual, their family, and especially the victims of preventable tragedies.”

In an exchange of how best to discuss the death penalty with pro death penalty individuals it was recommended that the best “approach is always to turn it around to explore why someone supports the DP, and then address those specifics….” or as we like to say is to go where the other is. The torture aspect has to be used with care as the suffering of the one murdered is the obvious response. Most people are not aware that it costs more to execute than to incarcerate for life and as most are tax payers…

We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other!
