Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 12.18.24
We have been invited to participate in the inaugural Alabama March for Progress event, which will be held on Sunday, January 19th, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montgomery State Capitol. “The Alabama March for Progress is a free, nonpartisan event that brings together various nonprofit organizations and advocates statewide that are helping Alabama move forward. Examples include those working on social justice, racial justice, environmental issues, healthcare, public transportation, criminal justice, homelessness, LGBTQ, education, disability groups, and more.” http://almarchforprogress.org/
We were of course delighted with the article in the Alabama Political Reporter by Alex Jobin https://www.alreporter.com/2024/12/13/forward-thinking-organizations-to-participate-in-alabama-march-for-progress/ “APR spoke with Bryan Fuenmayor, one of the grassroot organizers behind the event, to learn more about the march, its goals, and the organizations involved.
“The purpose of [the march] is to bring together forward-thinking organizations from across the state into one place with the goal of raising awareness about these organizations, issues, and people who are trying to make progress in Alabama,” Fuenmayor explained. “It’s connecting organizations with people across the state in the hope of getting more supporters, more members, but its also an opportunity for these organizations to strategize, to create coalitions, to be stronger together.”
The Board is using the march as one more opportunity to encourage family members and friends to come out and support us.
We highly recommend Human Behavior and the Death Penalty by Philip D. Hansten, Professor Emeritus, University of Washington. https://youtu.be/Z0Y4PJy4kRM It should be required viewing for all who impose the death penalty and judge!
We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. And as Christmas will be next Wednesday we wish you the peace, joy and love that is Christmas and a kind new year!
