We plan to keep 1.27.22,, the execution date for Matthew Reeves as the heading of our Weekly Report. Mr. Reeves has an IQ in the 60s and is intellectually disabled. Mr. Reeves was 18 years old at the time of the crime. You can find the Talking Points on our website http://www.phadp.org/?q=alerts and the petition at: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-the-execution-of-matthew-reeves-in-alabama?fbclid=IwAR36piPfuSAwcNU9CmBKO1io7FKugiOr7eVKpqzt_Do-2z1AdI84E7_39hM
Thank you to our wonderful friends at lifespark in Switzerland! They have supported us for many years and we appreciate that they posted a link to our Christmas Wings of Hope newsletter in their weekly bulletin!
A great big Thank You to Kairos and City of Hope for the delicious Christmas treats last weekend! We thoroughly enjoyed them! And of course as mentioned before, we really appreciated all the Christmas cards which told us that we are not forgotten! Thank you to all of you!
And there is more good news and we quote our Advisory Board member Dr. Katie Owens-Murphy: “Right in time for the holidays-- I have a gift for PHADP! The proofs for our article for Mississippi Quarterly are in. (Proofs are the last stage before publication-- it gives you a sense of what the layout will be.)” And having read the proofs this is great news! Thank you Dr. Katie Owens-Murphy!
Esther was delighted to be able to attend the Virtual NAACP Holiday Dinner. We owe the Alabama State Conference of the NAACP so much, including their sharing of our Weekly Report on their Facebook page.
As is our tradition we are having our annual Christmas celebration at our Board Meeting today. We shall be thinking of you with gratitude and in solidarity knowing that for many of you out there this special time can also be a difficult time. And so perhaps it is all the more important to wish each other the Peace, Joy and Love that we celebrate at Christmas. (We will return to death penalty news in the new year.)
In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Stay safe and wear a mask!
