Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 2.7.24

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 2.7.24

The Attorney General has asked for an execution date for Jamie Mills by lethal injection. We will keep you posted once a date has been set.

Of special interest for us in the new legislation session which begun yesterday is H.B. 27 which has been pre filed by Representative Chris England and which would make an earlier passed bill outlawing jury override retroactive. If it had passed last year it would have saved Kenny’s life and there are others at Holman whose lives it will save.

We appreciate Dev Wakeley of Alabama Arise’s statement on its goals regarding the Death Penalty titled “Alabama’s death penalty practices remain unjust and unusually cruel.” Our special thanks to the Alabama Arise Southeast Alabama Organizer, Formeeca Trip for including us in the Lee County Area Engagement!

We discussed how times like these reinforce the importance of collaboration. One great example is the GoFundMe established by Abe of Death Penalty Action to help our Advisory Board Member and Board Member while at Holman, Gary Drinkard who totaled his car while returning from Kenny’s execution. Prompted by this our friends at JAM also gifted Gary. We also appreciate the journalists who have remained in touch because they care.

We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook.. Stay safe and be kind to each other!
