Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 3.22.23

“SINCE WE CANNOT TRUST THE STATE TO INVESTIGATE ITSELF IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DEMAND TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY” Join us March 24th at 4:00 p.m. Central time at the Alabama State Capitol to protest the continuation of the death penalty in Alabama. We are demanding an EXTERNAL investigation into the capital punishment system in Alabama to stall and move to abolish the death penalty in the state of Alabama.” Indeed as we like to say, pull back the curtain and thank you to the organizers of this event the Democratic Students of Troy University. We hope to see many of you there this Friday!

And please sign the petition https://chng.it/VYLjg5GKRJ demanding an external investigation into Alabama’s death penalty.

Our thanks to the Social Action Committee of the Auburn Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for its letter to the editor promoting the rally protesting the continuation of the death penalty in Alabama and the lack of transparency in the DOC’s investigation of itself.

Great news from our so very committed Advisory Board Member Dr. Katie Owens Murphy who received the following message from Critical Criminology: ” Dear Author, We are pleased to inform you that your article "Interview with Project Hope to Abolish the Death Penalty" has been published online in Critical Criminology. As part of the Springer Nature Content Sharing Initiative, you can publicly share full-text access to a view-only version of your paper by using the following SharedIt link: https://rdcu.be/c7TUh “

The interview also appears in the book which we can’t wait to see! We are expecting it very soon.

The Board wrote a letter of appreciation and thanks to the Faith Leaders for their letter to the Governor asking for an external investigation of the execution process.

And yes, our new edition of our quarterly newsletter Wings of Hope has landed at the printer. We know you will enjoy it!

As always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Stay safe!
