Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 3.29.23

We were encouraged by the event last Friday in Montgomery on the steps of the Capitol. We were encouraged by those who attended and especially encouraged that the event was organized by a student, Dawson Hicks, a representative of the generation that is our hope for the future. His commitment to remain in touch and offer of help are much appreciated by all of us of phadp.

We appreciated Death Penalty Action’s presence and its great organizing skills. Thank you, Abe! Our thanks to ALL who attended!

We were pleased to see representatives of the press at our event. WFSA and the Alabama Political Reporter made sure to let Alabama know that as Dawson Hicks stated: “We do not trust the Alabama Department of Corrections to properly investigate itself, and who would?” We believe a third party must conduct the investigation. We oppose the death penalty for a variety of reasons including systemic and racial inequalities in Alabama’s criminal legal system, but even supporters of executions want to make sure the state gets it right.”

As always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Stay safe!
