https://www.charlessonnyburton.com for additional actions! We are participating in the weekly Save Sonny Coalition Communication meetings and very much appreciate all the actions initiated by the coalition. We have shared details with our list serve regarding today’s press conference as well as the Petition Delivery March: A “Mercy Monday March” on March 9th event. New Social Media Push: A “Sunny is Loved” series will collect personal stories to humanize the campaign. Social media strategy will prioritize video/photos over graphics and daily live streams. Also, signing petitions and personal letters to the Governor are important.

We welcomed ‘Four different faiths, one moral call. Why mercy must prevail for Alabama’s Sonny Burton: op-ed’ by Imam Aswan Abdul-Addarr, Rabbi Scott Looper, The Rev. Shane Isner, and Archbishop Mark Rivituso.
Also, What Charles Burton’s case reveals about capital punishment – The Berkeley Beacon and by Josh Moon Featured Opinion |” Commuting the sentence of Charles Burton is not a hard call to make” as well as many other almost daily articles, all very much appreciated, as are the press conferences. From Death Penalty Information Center: “Weeks Ahead of His Execution, Broad Coalition Calls on Alabama Governor to Commute Charles Burton’s Death Sentence”. We do our best to share the articles on our Facebook page and copy and print them to send to Holman.
Meanwhile Charles Sonny Burton remains in the clinic where he is doing well and also able to be in touch with friends who have medical appointments.
Michael Sockwell, one of AL’s longest serving death row inmates, 35 years, will receive a new trial because prosecutors violated his rights by intentionally rejecting black jurors. The U.S. Supreme Court rejected the state’s appeal to reject a lower court’s ruling.
The Attorney General has asked for a date for Jeffrey Lee. We will keep you updated. Meanwhile it is important to note that he has many powerful issues, including 7-5 jury override of the life without sentence for which the jury had voted and at the time of the crime an untreated TBI.

This past weekend we had a visit from Gospel Echoes. We enjoyed not only the music but also the food and appreciated the distraction with all that is happening. And yes, we are also working on the Spring edition of Wings of Hope. And last, but certainly not least our long time friend and spiritual advisor the Rev. Tom Duley visited us on Monday. It was very good to see him!
We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other.
Esther
