Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 4.2.25
Alabama has set 4.24.25 as the execution date for James Osgood. As per Mr. Osgood’s request there will be no appeals to contact Governor Ivey and no protests against his execution.
In support of our longtime work to reach more members of the faith community in Alabama our Advisory Board Member Retisha (Tish) Warr is contacting faith based organizations at the University of Alabama inviting them to link with us. We look forward to hearing from them.
The Alabama House of Representatives voted 86-5 for the bill that would allow prosecutors to pursue the death penalty when an adult is convicted of rape or sodomy of a child under 12. The legislation now moves to the Alabama Senate.
We appreciated the article in Rolling Stones: “The Last Face Death Row Inmates See” “The Rev. Jeff Hood has made a career of fighting to save men the state wants to kill — and it doesn’t matter if they’re innocent,” We are grateful and honored to call the Rev. Jeff Hood “friend”! “My View: The Machinery of Death Still Turns Despite Former Justice Breyer’s Prophetic Warning in Glossip” by David Greenwald is also an excellent article which we discussed. If only articles could be required reading for those in charge of the machinery of death!
We are happy and proud to announce that the latest edition of our quarterly newsletter Wings of Hope, Volume 29, Issue 1, written, typed and formatted on death row at Holman can now be read at: https://www.phadp.org/owoh29_1/. We hope you will enjoy it and thank our Development Officer Brandon Fountain for posting it on our website. The hard copy has also gone out.
We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other!
