Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 4.22.26
Governor Ivey set 6.11.26 as the execution date for Jeffery Lee and she has the power to grant clemency. It is important to note that he has many powerful issues, including 7-5 jury override of the life without sentence for which the jury had voted and at the time of the crime an untreated TBI. He also has a federal trial scheduled to begin on or around April 27th around the constitutionality (8th Amendment) of nitrogen gas executions. Mr. Lee is a highly respected member of our Board and Secretary/Treasurer. Jeffery Lee has a Facebook page “Life For Jeffery Lee” and a website https://www.lifeforjefferylee.com/ where you can learn more about Jaylove, as he is called by his friends and family. The Talking Points and address for the Governor can be found at https://www.phadp.org/execution-alert-10/ .and the petition https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-the-execution-of-jeffery-lee-in-alabama/
The Attorney General has also asked for an execution date for Michael Taylor.

This is National Crime Survivors/Victims Week and we are honored to quote Advisory Board Member and long time friend Callie Greer of Alabama Appleseed:”What it means to speak as a survivor” “There’s so much hurt, pain and unresolved issues we are holding. Unattended to harm, causes unidentified pain, which turns into visible violence. All violence has a root (s), until we deal with the root cause (s) we will continue to bear this fruit we’ve named violence, most of the time we hear “Gang Violence”, but I know that the majority of the so called “Gang Violence”is actually Unattended to “Pain Violence”. This week is National Crime Survivors/ Victims Week, let’s take the resources offered and heal. It’s time we start creating our “Beloved Community”.
The Trump Administration has just proposed a new rule to make it easier for states to rush through the execution process–all while denying people certain constitutionally-protected rights and risking executions of innocent people. We have until May 15th to object to this rule and try to stop it in its tracks! We wrote a letter of protest and this brings up this question:”Who are you talking to about the Death Penalty this week?” We’d love to hear your answers to this!
We are pleased to announce that On Wings of Hope, Vol.30, issue 1, 2026 will soon be on its way to you.
We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other.
Esther
