Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 5.18.22

It is encouraging to watch the restructuring of JAM. The letters stand for Justice and Mercy and certainly both are desperately needed in our state. Obviously we can only watch from the side lines but that does not mean that we cannot suggest to supporters who tell us that they would like to help that a great way of helping, especially if they live in Birmingham, would be to ask to join this hands on group.

We were very interested to learn that the Governor of Ohio called off a scheduled September 2022 execution date and rescheduled the execution for December 20 25. “In a news release, the governor’s office said that the reprieve had been issued “due to ongo¬ing prob¬lems involving the willingness of pharmaceutical suppliers to provide drugs to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), pursuant to DRC protocol, without endangering other Ohioans.” Our respect to the pharmaceutical companies who threatened not to sell drugs to state programs if they found out that these had been used for executions. Please come to Alabama!

We enjoyed playing volley ball with members of the We Care Prison Program. Although this prison ministry was founded in Atmore it now also visits other prisons in Alabama and is certainly a great way of reaching out.

We are continuing work on the next edition of our quarterly newsletter Wings of Hope. As always it presents us with challenges but ones we are ready to meet.

In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Stay safe!
