Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 5.21.25
Governor Ivey has set 6.10.25 as the execution date for Gregory Hunt. Talking Points for emails and letters to Governor Ivey can be found at: https://www.phadp.org/execution-alert-5/ and please sign the Death Penalty Action petition at: bit.ly/GregoryHunt The plan is to deliver them 6.9.25 at 9:00 a.m. so that Greg’s spiritual advisor, the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood can be present with us before he has to leave for Florida for another execution.
We highly recommend https://www.patheos.com/blogs/jeffhood/open-your-eyes-alabama-on-the-execution-of-greg-hunt by the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood, Greg’s spiritual advisor!
Yesterday we participated in a press conference organized by Death Penalty Action where the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood did a great job explaining why Greg should not be executed because although Greg did commit murder, which he deeply regrets, the reason it was made capital was and is a lie.
We were contacted by the publicity director for anti-death penalty advocate Corinna Barrett Lain, author of the widely acclaimed Secrets of the Killing State who will also be coming through Alabama (Birmingham/Tuscaloosa) as part of a larger book tour in mid-September. I look forward to receiving a copy of her new book.
We shared a letter from Herman Lindsey of Witness to Innocence about his attendance at a conference in Geneva sponsored by the United Nations “Expert Mechanism to Advance Racial Justice and Equality in Law Enforcement” (EMLER). We are not surprised that Herman found it to be “a remarkable experience.”
The world is in a state of flux and at the moment death row at Holman Prison mirrors the world, and as with the world it is too soon to say what the outcome will be. One more reason to remember our name and stay strong!
We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other!
