Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 5.26.21

We discussed the concern raised by legal and death penalty experts regarding the absence of media at last week’s execution in Texas. As rightly stated it is the media that raised concern about botched executions also here in Alabama and it is the media that keeps the public informed about the lack of transparency about the drugs, their origin and expiration date. To put the media’s absence down to a lack of communication lacks credibility.

The project for the Mississippi Quarterly on which 10 of us have been working under the expert guidance of Advisory Board member Dr. Katie Owens-Murphy is in its final stages. We have seen the final draft and marvel how our various contributions have come together in a comprehensive and very readable whole! We are delighted and grateful!

As most of our friends and supporters know Project Hope to Abolish the Death Penalty does not get involved in prison issues however now that our move to the Segregation Unit has taken place we would like to make an exception with this policy so that we can let our friends and family members know that we have new cell numbers. Our current situation can best be described as being in flux and therefore challenging.

In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Stay safe!
