Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 5.28.25

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 5.28.25

Governor Ivey has set 6.10.25 as the execution date for Gregory Hunt. Talking Points for emails and letters to Governor Ivey can be found at: https://www.phadp.org/execution-alert-5/ and please sign the Death Penalty Action petition at:   bit.ly/GregoryHunt The plan is to deliver them 6.9.25 at 9:00 a.m. so that Greg’s spiritual advisor, the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood can be present with us before he has to leave for Florida for another execution.

We are grateful that Witness to Innocence will be represented by Gary Drinkard at the press conference before the petition delivery 6.9.25. Congratulations to Gary, one of our own, on being appointed as the new Board Chair for Witness to Innocence!

Greg Hunt shared an inspiring and uplifting message with us which we will be sharing with all of you.

We just found out that DR. HOOD HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR THE 2025 NOBEL PEACE PRIZE!”I believe Dr. Hood’s person and work are worthy of the committee’s consideration as an example of bringing both the peace that flows from honoring the dignity of disenfranchised people, and the peace that flows through the channel of one human spirit to another,” Pepperdine University Professor of Religion Dr. David Lemley wrote in the nominating letter. To quote the Rev. Sharon Risher, Chair of the Board of Directors for Death Penalty Action:” I’m so so happy for this. Our collective work has been recognized.”

Esther received the honor of being awarded the Ida B. Lewis Humanitarian Award for Justice by the Metro County Montgomery Branch of the AL State Conference of the NAACP. It was an incredible event and new friends were made. As we are family she accepted also in our name which gave her the opportunity to lift all of us up. We are so very grateful to the NAACP and in times such as these it is more important than ever that we all stand together.

We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other!
