Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 5.3.23

Please read the article “Alabama could execute Robin “Rocky” Myers soon. A juror says he is innocent” and be horrified once more at Alabama’s so called justice sytem. “No physical evidence identified who fatally stabbed Ludie Mae Tucker in her Decatur home in October of 1991.No murder weapon. No bloody clothes. No hair samples.” For Alabama no problem!

We have reactivated an earlier project of ours which was to write to churches to ask them to sign on to the moratorium. We would like it of course if they could contact the EJUSA Evangelical Network for inspiration and help.

We would also like to give a shout out to Cantor Mike Zoosman of L’chaim Jews Against the Death Penalty. They do a great job with up to date news while at the same time reaching out to individuals as they did last week when they helped James Barber celebrate his birthday. We post regularly on their Facebook page and appreciate the new supporters we can meet there.

We discussed the well researched article “No, the death penalty is not cheaper than life imprisonment by Casey Decker.” Although that is not news to us, it remains one of the most powerful arguments for those who believe in state killings and an eye for an eye.

We are reading the introduction of our book Ghosts Over the Boiler which for the newer members is a history lesson, an amazing history lesson of our organization.

Tomorrow, May 4th is the National Day of Prayer about the state and federal death penalty organized by the EJUSA Evangelical Project and Christians and Muslims on Alabama Death Row will also gather to pray. Thanks to our Muslim brothers, their Imam and spiritual advisor will join in prayer from the mosque in Mobile.

Our thanks to Death Penalty Focus for its support of what we do!

As always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. And if you would like to order our book Ghosts Over the Boiler you can do so at Amazon.com.
