Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 5.6.26

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 5.6.26

Governor Ivey set 6.11.26 as the execution date for Jeffery Lee and she has the power to grant clemency. It is important to note that he has many powerful issues, including 7-5 jury override of the life without sentence for which the jury had voted and at the time of the crime an untreated TBI

Mr. Lee is a highly respected and much loved member of our Board and Secretary/Treasurer. Jeffery Lee has a Facebook page “Life For Jeffery Lee” and a website https://www.lifeforjefferylee.com/ where you can learn more about Jaylove, as he is called by his friends and family. The Talking Points and address for the Governor can be found at https://www.phadp.org/execution-alert-10/ .and the petition https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-the-execution-of-jeffery-lee-in-alabama/

AlabamaDepartment of Corrections, AG’s office face possible sanctions in death penalty case  Alabama Reflector, Ralph Chapoco ”A U.S. District Court judge ordered that ADOC and the AG’s Office submit reasons why they should not be punished for making false statements. A federal judge Tuesday threatened officials from the Alabama Department of Corrections and the state Attorney General’s Office with sanctions after ruling they made false statements regarding the state’s protocol for nitrogen gas executions.

U.S. District Court Judge Emily Marks ruled that former ADOC Commissioner John Hamm, Deputy Commissioner Charles Williams; Holman Correctional Warden Terry Raybon and Brenton L. Thompson of the AG’s Office had falsely stated that it could not maintain data collected for pulse oximeters used to monitor inmates during nitrogen gas executions.

“It appears to the Court that this response was false when it was made and that the Defendants knew it was false: as counsel for the Defendants acknowledged at the April 23, 2026 pretrial conference, the Defendants knew, on February 25, 2026, that the pulse oximeters retained residual data,” Marks wrote in her order.”

“Alabama invents new arguments to explain away DNA, presses ahead with death sentence” By Ivana Hrynkiw | Maybe he was confused. Or scared. But the confession had to be true. Surely Christopher Barbour just got the name wrong and identified the wrong man who raped a Montgomery woman before Barbour stabbed her to death. That’s the theory of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, which is still insisting on keeping Barbour on death row despite DNA evidence that points to another man. The state’s top prosecutors filed new documents with an appellate court asking to stop a federal judge’s decision to give Barbour a new trial.” For those of us who either have investigated cases or experienced interrogations firsthand the above invented arguments would be laughable if they did not threaten a life and are therefore downright criminal!

We discussed   – Editor Brian Lyman: “ The Supreme Court’s endless war on southern democracy and voting rights.  Black southerners sacrificed a lot to secure their clear constitutional rights. The U.S. Supreme Court just took them away.” This will also negatively affect issues regarding the death penalty for obvious reasons and so it is good to see the protests and outrage by many about this ruling!

We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other.
