Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 5.7.25

The Alabama Supreme Court has authorized the execution of Gregory Hunt.

It is our heartbreaking duty to announce the death of our dear friend John Palombi, Federal Defender for the Middle District of Alabama. We are forever in your debt and will never forget you! Our heartfelt condolences to his wife, family and friends!

We heard from the Rev. Grace Kelly of Tuscaloosa Grace Presbyterian Church     about the event for Toforest Johnson: “we had a big crowd at Canterbury Chapel (Episcopal) in Tuscaloosa on Sunday for the Toforest Johnson event. I am hoping to send pictures. I hope that conversation will raise awareness of the broader issues of our criminal justice system beyond guilt or innocence but cases like his do help draw attention to all the guys on death row.” Very true and we thank all who made it happen.

We spent a lot of time on legal issues and cases that were recently ruled on. It’s going to take some time to figure out which cases apply to whom, but that’s our next priority.

We shared the notification from EJUSA with the bad news that the Department of Justice had terminated their award which supported restorative justice and community-based public safety strategies. We are aware that some organizations could lose their non-profit status but we will continue doing what we do!

The Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood is one of our spiritual advisors and so we are pleased to share the following: “We are happy to announce Execution Intervention Project’s soft launch today, with an official launch coming in 2 weeks. Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood and Noa have decided to join forces after Steven Nelson’s Execution, and start their non-profit. They want to provide free spiritual guidance, support and accompaniment to individuals on Death-Row, especially those with Execution Dates.” We thank them and support Rev. Jeff Hood! https://www.executionintervention.org/donate

Much appreciation and thank you to Ms Shelley Fearson for placing our ad in the Alabama New South Coalition 40th Anniversary Convention book! And thank you also to all who are donating to my birthday fund on Facebook to benefit Death Penalty Action!

We thank all who are working so hard and diligently to stop all killing in Alabama! And as always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. Stay safe and be kind to each other!
