Governor Ivey set 6.11.26 as the execution date for Jeffery Lee and she has the power to grant clemency. It is important to note that he has many powerful issues, including 7-5 jury override of the life without sentence for which the jury had voted and at the time of the crime an untreated TBI.
Mr. Lee is a highly respected and much loved member of our Board and Secretary/Treasurer. The most important thing you can do right now:
Call Governor Ivey. Tell her the jury said life. In March, her office said she had no plans to grant clemency for Sonny Burton on a Friday. She commuted his sentence the following Tuesday. Public pressure works. We have seen it happen in Alabama. We need it to happen again.

On Monday more than 50 people gathered at the Capitol to present the petitions to Governor Ivey. We thank all who attended and appreciate our friends of Death Penalty Action who as usual organized a great event.
As you know the last several days have been extraordinary:” Days before Alabama execution, federal court orders new hearing A three-judge panel ordered a lower court to consider the feasibility of a firing squad for Jeffrey Lee but did not immediately stay his scheduled Thursday execution.” And then yesterday: “A federal judge on Tuesday permanently blocked Alabama from executing an inmate with nitrogen gas after declaring the method violates the ban on cruel and unusual punishment. US District Judge Emily C. Marks issued the decision a day after an appeals court reversed her ruling that the method is constitutional. Marks permanently enjoined the state from executing Jeffery Lee by nitrogen gas. Lee was scheduled to be executed Thursday at an Alabama prison. A spokesman for Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said the state is reviewing the decision and considering next steps, including an appeal. The case will likely end up before the US Supreme Court, which has previously let nitrogen executions proceed.”
This is a difficult time for all who know and love Jeffery Lee, JLove, but what is helping us is knowing about the good work done by his supporters on the outside and also knowing that JLove is supported by his faith and wants us not to give up hope.
