The governor’s office set a time frame for the execution of James Barber that will begin at midnight on July 20 and expire at 6 a.m. on July 21. The 30-hour window is designed to give the state prison system more time after two most recent executions were called off because of trouble with intravenous lines.
You can find the Execution Talking Points at: https://www.phadp.org/execution-alert-james-barber/. We thank the individuals, including Cantor Mike Zoosman from L’chaim, Jews Against the Death Penalty for their daily weekday calls to the Governor’s office protesting the upcoming execution. Might you join them? PHONE 1-334-242-7100 and please sign the Death Penalty Action petition: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-the-execution-of-james-barber-in-alabama/
The latest edition of our quarterly newsletter Wings of Hope, Vol 27, Issue 3 written, typed and formatted on death row is now on its way to you and thanks to our hard working volunteer Development Officer Brandon Fountain you can also read it on line on our brand new website: https://www.phadp.org/owoh27-2/We would not be the organization that we are without Bandon and will always be in his debt! Thank you, Brandon!
It is always very good news when new friends, in this case Sam Heath of EJUSA, ask to be introduced to old friends, in this case Advisory Board member Dr. Katie Owens Murphy of UNA. Not only can Dr. Katie Owens Murphy discuss our book and the death penalty archives which she established at UNA but also the current “ process of developing a traveling art installation project using materials from the archive, as well. In fact, one of the themes we will be highlighting is the contradiction between the death penalty and Evangelicalism here in the Bible Belt” in which Sam Heath of the EJUSA Evangelical Network expressed a special interest.
As always in closing, we thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. And if you would like to order our book Ghosts Over the Boiler you can do so at Amazon.com.
