Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey set a 30-hour time frame for the execution of Jeremy Williams in an order sent Thursday to the commissioner of the Alabama Department of Corrections. The execution must occur between anytime Aug. 13 and 6 a.m. Aug. 14. Jeremy Williams is a volunteer because he wants to save the murder victims’ families further grief and as a way of atoning for what he did. As a death row organization we are in the unique position of respecting Jeremy’s wishes by not asking for a stay nor holding protest vigils, We will however post Death Penalty Action’s petition and respect your stand against the death penalty.

On July 4th, Amnesty Monouthshire is holding an event in an historic town called Chepstow. Naturally, they will be highlighting the work of Amnesty Monmouthshire and one of the events will be a ‘Write for Rights’ Postcard Campaign. During the event, we shall be encouraging visitors to send our specially prepared postcards, to either write to the Governor and/or an inmate. In any event, each month, we feature the case of Toforest Johnson, encouraging our members to write to him or the Governor. Jeffery Lee’s case will also be featured and Rocky Myers’.
We had a great conversation with Joia Erin Thornton, National Director of flocc, faith leaders of color coalition. Could you please speak to your minister and ask whether I could submit his name to Joia? I need at least 10 to get started.
Last Thursday we had our monthly Alabamians for a Better Way Forward meeting. There was lots to discuss and share and we were honored by Robert Dunham’s presence who gave us insight what the Supreme Court’s refusal to be part of the nitrogen hypoxia lower courts’ ruling meant and didn’t mean. We thank and appreciate all who attended and hope you know that!

“In 1978, Chaplain Curtis Browder was appointed by Gov. George C. Wallace as Alabama’s first Black prison chaplain. He still ministers to incarcerated men and women across the state. His ministry was featured in the Academy Award-nominated documentary “The Alabama Solution.” And we were happy to see his article in the NEW YORK AMSTERDAM NEWS : Imprisoned Black man, his KKK-linked attorney, and what justice really looks like. We thank Chaplain Browder for all he has done for us now for many years!
