Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 6.4.25

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 6.4.25

Governor Ivey has set 6.10.25 as the execution date for Gregory Hunt. Talking Points for emails and letters to Governor Ivey can be found at: https://www.phadp.org/execution-alert-5/ and please sign the Death Penalty Action petition at: bit.ly/GregoryHunt The plan is to deliver them 6.9.25 at 9:00 a.m. so that Greg’s spiritual advisor, the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood can be present with us before he has to leave for Florida for another execution. And to quote the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood in an article in NEWSWEEK: Hunt “should be at the epicenter of any conversation about redemption. He has transformed from brutal murderer into a faithful pastor to his neighbors on death row. It has been my honor to have sat at his feet and learned from his ministry.”

It is important to note that as stated in pro se filing that: “Without sex abuse as charged,”(and which he denies and disproves} wrote Hunt, “Mr. Hunt is not guilty of capital murder, nor felony murder. The jury would have likely convicted him of the lesser including (included) offense of murder.”

Greg Hunt shared an inspiring and uplifting message with us which we will be sharing with all of you.

From Death Penalty Information Center: “The “Fiction of Agency”: Jeffrey Hutchinson Is the Latest of Many Executed After Attorneys … “ found that over half (31/57) of prisoners denied federal review due to missed deadlines came from just two states — Alabama and Florida — despite those states accounting for only 18% of death sentences and 12% of executions in the modern era. It is not a coincidence that these same states have historically failed to appoint competent counsel for death-sentenced prisoners in state post-conviction appeals.

We heard from Corinna Barrett Lain S. D. Roberts & Sandra Moore Professor of Law at Richmond School of Law and author of “Secrets of the Killing State, The Untold Story of Lethal Injection.” Professor Lain is planning a book tour in the fall with at least 2 stops in Alabama, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. If any of you know of a good independent book store in the area, she would love to hear about it.

We will be sending out the list of vigils on Sunday and hope you can join them.
