We are still stunned by the total lack of respect by this state for the wishes of the family of Faith Hall, the murder victim, seeing that Alabama always justifies executions by touting the need for closure for the family. In the Montgomery Advertiser Joe’s sister is quoted: “Sister of Joe Nathan James: Circumstances surrounding execution warrant an investigation. “Of course, they unilaterally decided, against the wishes of the victim’s family, to execute the second Black man during this election year,” Craig wrote. “They didn’t care about the wishes of the victim’s family because the victim’s family are not their constituents.”
Obviously the continued fallout from Joe Nathan’s execution, including the article by Pulitzer Prize Winner for commentary in 2007, Cynthia Tucker, makes us hope that changes will come. When they do it will be thanks to our attorneys and also the press and we also hope the work that we contribute behind the scenes.
